Starting Out
I feel very fortunate to have had three very fulfilling careers. After earning a degree in psychology from Tulane University, I attended graduate school at the University of Texas and earned a Masters degree in education. I taught special-needs children in Austin and San Antonio for several years. Later I decided to work from home so I could spend more time with my two children. Because I wanted to keep in touch with the world of education, I became an educational writer. I enjoyed this career for many years, especially the challenge and creative skills required for writing.
A Midlife Change
At midlife I was ready for another change. I had considered becoming a psychotherapist when I completed my undergraduate degree years before, and I decided it was time to follow that dream. I earned a second Master's degree at St. Edward's University—this one in counseling. I began my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at a nonprofit organization in Austin. Today I work with individuals, couples, and families in my private practice at Austin Counseling and Psychotherapy Center.
My Life Today
Besides being a psychotherapist in Austin, Texas, I enjoy reading, traveling with my husband, cooking, practicing yoga, and spending time with my family and friends. But the most important thing you need to know about me is that I am passionate about hearing people's stories and supporting them as they bring meaning to their lives.
